Mike Mirams - Background and Experience
Mike Mirams, speaking on Supply Chain Management to the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade in Wuhan, China, in October 2005From an engineering background, I have worked in management since the 1970s, and as an independent consultant since 1992. I have extensive experience in the development, implementation and application of quality management and improvement programmes in the UK and abroad.
In 2000, in conjunction with a former colleague Tim Waterhouse, I formed Mirams Waterhouse Ltd, to provide a variety of allied services delivered by a wide range of specialist associates.
A published author on quality and other topics, and a qualified trainer and lead auditor, I am often asked to speak at seminars and conferences world-wide.
My experience includes:
- Development, implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of quality management systems for manufacturing and service organisations in the UK, Europe and Overseas.
- Design and delivery of management development programmes.
- Supplier and sub-contractor sourcing, supply chain management and monitoring for distributors and manufacturers in engineering, electronics, semi-conductor, footwear, engine components, etc. in the UK, Europe and Asia.
- Working with many varied standards and directives including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, Atex, AAR, Pressure Equipment Directive, AS 9001, TS16949, Microgeneration scheme, HACCP, Low Voltage Directive, etc.
- Development, implementation and training-in of packaged and bespoke computer systems for quality management, customer relationship management and manufacturing management.
- Project management for varied clients, including setting up manufacturing functions (see example case study) and processes, writing technical documentation as well as health & safety and personnel information handbooks, development of video training material, etc.
I am currently involved with the Scandinavian Business Academy in Denmark on projects to lift young people of India out of poverty and into employment (see SELF project), and to develop vocational training and academic programmes that are particularly tailored to meet the very specific demands of the Indian market.
